Before I start, I am not talking about bhop ports in this. I do feel they are often quite horrible, but I could argue the massive gameplay differences between let’s say autobhop and KZT slot machine jumping, even if it is for worse. I am also not caring for original “surf combo maps” in KZ, as I feel like they definitely have their place and I do personally enjoy them. I am specifically talking about maps that are ported from surf.
Surf is a part of KZ, but I think it's unnecessary to port original surf maps. Because right now we have surf_ace, a very popular easy surf map. So in reality where is it going to stop? All it takes is 1 dude wanting one of the other hundreds of surf maps and then we have one more.
And you’re probably thinking to yourself, “Ah great the good ole’ slippery slope argument, zzz”. But that’s not what I’m saying, I’m more questioning why the hell do we have different game modes if we can just port over all doable surf maps? What’s the point in opening CSS and playing on KSF? The classic “if I wanna play surf I’d just go play surf” but unironically. What’s the point of these maps? Is the end goal to merge surf into KZ completely and get rid of surf as its own game mode? Or are we fine as long as there are changes to the original map (imo for the worse, cause this one is just lazy).
Where’s the line going to be drawn? Because realistically, there has to be a line.
The settings are different on KZ than on surf and I can see the fun in it. But I really cannot see the point in it at all. As I said before, I have nothing against surf in kz, it's been a thing for a long ass time and it's very fun. I have no problem with the idea of let's say kz_slide_deee, which is an original map made for these settings in particular. I am merely questioning the point of a map like kz_surf_ace.
Alternatively, just put these kind of “fun concepts” in a bonus and call it a day.
